BIIAB qualifications

Licensing

Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH)

One day licensing course, there is a requirement for anyone authorising the sale of alcohol to have a personal licence.

Award for Designated Premises Supervisors (ADPS)

For those responsible for the day-to-day management of licensed premises and who, in line with the Licensing Act 2003, provide the single point of accountability for those premises.

Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (ARAR)

Demonstrates commitment to responsible alcohol retailing and enables those who successfully pass to act within the law and to support the designated premises supervisor to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises.

Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH)

One day licensing course, BIIAB SCPLH covers the syllabus set by the Scottish Government to enable candidates to understand the law.  Covers all you need to know about the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and the responsibilities attached to the retail sale of alcohol.

Award for Licensing Practitioners (Alcohol) (ALPA)

ALPA is designed for local authority licensing officers, and other staff, such as police officers, fire officers and environmental health officers, involved in the administration of the Licensing Act 2003.

Award in Assessment of the Licensed Premises (Social Responsibilities) (AALPSR)

A 2-unit qualification for prospective assessors of recognised award schemes, for police, trading standards, fire service and local authorities.

Compliance

Award in Conflict Management for Licensed Premises Staff (ACMLPS)

Helps staff to avoid and manage conflict within their work environment.

Award in Drugs Awareness for Licensed Hospitality Staff (ADALHS)

Provides both managers and staff of all types of licensed premises with an awareness of the illegal drugs scene and also covers operational guidelines to help prevent drug problems arising.

Award in Food Safety in Catering (AFSC)

For anyone in the hospitality and services industries who work with food. To ensure that they have the knowledge to store, serve and sell food which is perfectly safe.

Award in Health and Safety in the workplace (AHSW)

A one day course which aims to provide learners with knowledge of health & safety principles, highlighting subject areas essential to the development, promotion and maintenance of safe working practices and procedures in the workplace.

Hospitality

Award in Introduction to Employment in the Hospitality Industry

Designed for people who have not worked in, or need a refresher in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism, and are looking to secure an entry level job.

Award in Customer Service Excellence (Licensed Hospitality) ACSE(LH)

For front line staff in licensed hospitality venues, the qualification introduces the concept of the customer “service journey”.

Award in Licensed Hospitality Operations (ALHO)

Three day course, covering areas of management responsibility, which are essential to run a licensed retail business successfully.

First Aid

Emergency First Aid at work (EFAW)

Emergency First Aid at Work allows a first aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill whilst at work.

Drink Service

Award in Wine Service

One day course, build your professionalism with this qualification developed with the Academy of Food and Wine Service to improve product awareness and selling skills.

Award in Beer & Cellar Quality (ABCQ)

This one day course is an award designed to help you ensure that beer is consistently served in optimum condition.

Management development

Award in Hospitality Business Management (AHBM)

Part of the BIIAB Hospitality Business Management programme.  A professional development programme aimed at experienced operators, recognised for making a huge difference to the turnover and profitability of businesses.

Certificate in Hospitality Business Management (CHBM)

Part of the BIIAB Hospitality Business Management programme.   A professional development programme for experienced operators and key staff who want to improve their skills

Certificate in Multiple Licensed Premises Management (CMLPM)

Completed over 6-9 months, this consists of 5 mandatory units and three optional units.  For anyone operating in a business development function, who should be equipped with the key business skills, to enable support of their licensees and provide advice on sound and profitable business practices.

CIEH Qualifications

Level 2

Award in Food Safety in Catering

One day course for everyone who works with food has a special responsibility for safeguarding the health of consumers and ensuring that the food they serve or sell is perfectly safe to eat. Refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every three years.

Award in Food Safety in Catering (Refresher)

A half day course, refresh candidates’ knowledge of food safety and encourage best practice in the workplace.

Award in Heath & Safety in the Workplace

A one day course designed to ensure that employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. Can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.

Award in Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety

A one day course, supported by a handbook, which provides employees with a foundation in conflict resolution, with emphasis on the importance of personal safety, to enable them to protect themselves in the face of confrontational behaviour.

Level 3

Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering

A three day course which provides a thorough understanding of food safety procedures, emphasising the importance of monitoring staff and controls.  For managers and supervisors, particularly relevant for those who develop or monitor HACCP based food safety management procedures and systems.
